Ian Langmann

Ian Langmann brings with him broad but relevant work experience. Surrounded by his father’s antique store at an early age Ian eventually became involved in selling and appraising international art and antiques and learning their restoration. Ian graduated from BCIT’s forestry program in 1990 and worked across the BC coast for Interfor before settling down again in Vancouver. Here, using his restoration knowledge, he started his own contracting firm renovating homes in Vancouver’s West Side. After deciding to move to Courtenay in 2012, Ian started with a local firm specializing in new home construction and eventually managed the construction of a multi-unit development. Returning to his work as an independent contractor, Ian continued doing renovations as well as working with several property management firms completing remediation and repairs to homes and strata units. Ian continually draws from this broad experience, when dealing with residential, strata and commercial claims and hopes to eventually specialize in art and antique claims.

Jim Vardy, M.O.M, CIP

Jim started his second career in 2015 as an insurance adjuster after a 35-year career in the RCMP. During his RCMP career, he worked in several different capacities including general duty, traffic, and marine. Jim obtained his 500t Master Certificate and was a vessel commander of the RCMP Patrol vessels in BC for 10 years. He has also received training in vessel accident investigations and supervised the RCMP small vessel fleet in BC. In addition, Jim worked as a supervisor of Detachment Commanders in Northern BC, which included all aspects of risk management.Jim completed his CIP studies through the Insurance Council of Canada remote learning in 2006, with electives in the Marine Adjusting Field. Upon retirement in 2015, he was hired as an all-lines adjuster and worked in Northern BC and Vancouver Island. He obtained his full CIP designation in 2017.Jim joined Coast Claims in 2021, specializing in auto and motorcycle claims and in liability claims, including BI, Product, Employer and Commercial General liability. Jim also specializes in marine claims for both pleasure and commercial vessels. Jim conducts investigations into various aspects of insurance claims including misrepresentation and fraud.

Kevin Despins joined Coast Claims in 2011. Since 1998, Kevin has been a multi- lines adjuster, handling all aspects of property, marine, automotive, heavy equipment and large commercial losses in the forestry and aquaculture industries, plus property and bodily injury liability claims, using the practical knowledge he gained from 20 years working in the forest industry. Earning his CIP designation in 2006, Kevin also holds a Level C Fire Investigators Certification from the Canadian Association of Fire Investigators and Level 1 Fire Cause & Origin certification from the Justice Institute of B.C. Kevin Specializes in large property losses, liability adjusting, automotive, heavy equipment, cargo and commercial claims. Kevin also handles claims in all northern areas of Vancouver Island, no matter how remote.

Peter has been employed with Coast Claims since 1984 and is the managing partner in our Campbell River office. Peter handles all types of losses, specializing in residential and commercial property and casualty losses and marine claims. He has completed courses on restorative drying, mould hazards and control, and fire investigations. Peter has expertise in marine damage surveys; he is a member of the Association of Marine Surveyors of BC, and has extensive experience in claims for commercial and pleasure craft, wharves, floats and boat sheds. He also has extensive experience with auto, municipal and road maintenance claims and investigations.

Timothy O’Neil

Timothy O’Neil

With nearly two decades of experience, Tim began his career in 2005 with a national carrier. Since then, he has continued to advance as an adjuster in the insurance industry, transitioning to multi-line Independent Adjusting in 2016.

Tim has a strong background in property claims, including single and multi-family residential, strata/condominium, commercial, and catastrophe losses. His expertise also extends to auto, liability, and dispute resolution/mediation claims.

Having worked with both large and small insurers in Alberta and British Columbia, Tim is dedicated to building relationships and delivering exceptional service to both insureds and insurers
