Brett McAvena

Brett McAvena grew up in Kelowna, BC, and started his career in the insurance industry in 2003, with a restoration company. In 2005 he joined a national independent adjusting firm working out of Calgary and then Edmonton before relocating back to Kelowna. After gaining valuable claims handling experience, Brett joined Coast Claims in the spring of 2018. He continues to handle multiple lines of claims, focusing on commercial and residential property, general liability, motor truck cargo, heavy equipment and marine losses. Brett is currently working towards his CIP designation and is a member of the Lake Okanagan Insurance Society as well as the Honorable Order of the Blue Goose.

James Greer

James Greer

Before starting his independent adjusting career, James worked for a family-owned construction company in Prince Rupert, BC, obtaining his Red Seal Interprovincial Carpentry designation in 2001. He joined Brouwer Claims in 2009, then worked for two other independent adjusting firms before joining the Coast Claims team in 2019. James enjoys handling all aspects of personal lines, commercial, inland marine, ICBC, First Nations, strata, travel trailer and ATV claims. James is working on his CIP designation and is currently a Licensed Level 2 Adjuster. James uses his construction experience and industry knowledge, which can help alleviate concerns the policyholders may have when technical construction practices are required during the claims process. With his great work ethic, James is an asset on all types of claims.

Lisa Balcaen

Lisa Balcaen

Lisa Balcaen, BBA, CIP, brings over 12-year experience as an adjuster in the lower mainland before she returned back to the Okanagan where she grew up to continue expanding her career as a multi-line insurance adjuster.
Lisa achieved her CIP designation in November 2019, and handles residential, strata and commercial property claims, but enjoys handling general liability property and bodily injury losses, along with manufacturers / product liability losses, and has expanded into handling Fine Arts losses. Although Lisa resides in the Okanagan, she maintains her license in BC and Alberta to offer services throughout both provinces.

Ryan McAvena, BA, CIP

Ryan McAvena, BA, CIP

Growing up in Kelowna, Ryan was introduced to the insurance industry in 1999 when he worked for a local restoration firm while attending university. He worked as a general insurance adjuster in the Lower Mainland until he became an independent adjuster in 2004. After 11 years in the independent field, including a happy and productive stint managing the Duncan office of Coast Claims, Ryan returned to the Okanagan, and then returned to Coast Claims in the fall of 2017 as manager of the Kelowna office. Ryan holds a CIP designation, and is a multi-line adjuster with an emphasis on residential and commercial property claims, general liability, heavy equipment and marine losses.
